Shootout ON and 8 comp Junior season get ready!

Club news just in it looks like Local board-riding clubs will be able to operate competitions from around 15th June with a maximum of 20 crew in and around the comp area. The Noosa Boardriders Club committee will make an announcement soon on a start date for Junior comps with the season pushed back and now an 8 comp season. The Open Club Championship  “Shotgun Shootout” will also be back with dates to be posted in the next week. With all this spare time the level of local surfing has lifted Jasper Endersby and Aaron Kelly pushing punt limits to a new high.

The flow of east swell continues with plenty of point waves this week. Small perfect peelers along all Noosa points maxing out at 3ft. The open beaches have a had a few windows of opportunity as the wind swung to the SSW with Ross and Hippys the best of the banks. Winds should freshen to 15-20knts from the SE today and tomorrow making Noosa West and the National Park breaks the better option on an early morning high with an outgoing tide.

Sunday SSE winds ease with more East  in the swell direction, a mid-morning low tide might make the walk to Granite worth the effort. Winds will be a bit flukey towards the back end of the week with a possibility of some West in the direction keep an eye out and hit it early on the open beaches Hippys through to Coca Cola Creek as it won’t last before the onshore wind fills in. All in all looking good for another week of small clean waves at the Noosa points.

The crowds are still around if you’re looking to get out there allow time for parking, difficult with the National Park Car park closed and the reduction in parking in and around the area.  There is a lot of different craft in the water Foils, Sups, skis, Logs, Mini Mals, Fun Boards, Singles, short boards, to avoid collisions  spread out and keep an eye out for the surfer on the inside or up first they have right of way. The World Surf league surf ranch or wave pool for Coolum is back for 2nd round of public consultation of key stakeholders. Surfing Qld has thrown its support behind the project keep an eye out for updates on this front.

Tragic news this week with the deaths of 5 Dutch surfers and more missing caught in thick beds of sea foam while surfing a break near Scheveningen, disorientation and breathing difficulties are said to be the cause. We see a type of sea foam phenomenon along beach fronts here during heavy seas some foam walls can be up to two metres high.

Stay safe out there and good surfing
