10 Questions with Gia Lorenston

1 When did you join the club?

I joined Noosa Board riders club around 2016. Looking back at the many people I didn't know, have grown to become close friends, with the surfing community growing bigger over the birthing a-lot more female girl surfers out of Noosa which is amazing.

2 What do you think about being a member of our club?

I love being apart of Noosa Board riders club. Whether its in or out of the water, everyone in the club looks out for each other. This community is supportive and friendly, everyone is always up for a chat, everyones always having fun. Club rounds and the shotgun shootout are just a bonus I believe to being apart of the club, testing or practicing your ability against locals is the perfect way to grow the next generation, which is going to be crazy, these kids are charging!

3 What type and size boards are you riding?

I ride Underground surfboards which are shaped in the Gold coast, supporting local is always the way to go! I ride anywhere from 5'5 to 5'11 when it gets real big (rarely on the sunny coast haha). My favourite board is a 5'7 rounded square or swallow tail, there super fun.

4 What’s your favourite local break and conditions?

My favourite local break would have to be either Tea tree when its anywhere from 3-5ft, preferably no sweep haha, or anywhere where the banks are good in Sunshine, ideally around 3-6ft if banks are good!! The bigger it is the more fun, gets my adrenaline rushing haha.

5 What’s your favourite manoeuvre and why?

Favourite manoeuvre would have to be a frontside carve or a backhand snap. They both can vary in so many different ways and progressing them to another level is tons of fun.

6 What is your favourite colour?

Probably red at the moment, it tends to change every week or so.

7 Who is the funniest person you know and why?

I would have to say all the NBC groms, they all have these crazy personalities that always bring a smile to anyone.

8 Who is your favourite local surfer and why?

Favourite local surfer would be my coach Dean Brady. He's always happy and positive about everything, his surfing and achievements are something that I respect and look up to.

9 Who is your favourite Pro surfer and why?

My favourite pro surfer would be Keely Andrew. Keely is from the sunshine coast and has just qualified again for the WSL tour. She's an all around happy and frothing surfer that goes out of her way to catch up or make us younger girls happy.

10 Would you like a career in surfing?

To have a career in surfing is my ideal goal, in 2020 I will be starting the process by doing my first couple of QS's and again completing the Australia leg in the Pro Junior series. As I'm finishing my last year in school next year, I'll be spending 2021 and more years travelling and trying to qualify for the tour. I love surfing and would love to make my life out of it. Growing up with Noosa Board riders giving me support and confidence has grown my love for surfing even further and I cant wait for the future thanks to them.
