Noosa the producer!

The east swell and S winds persisted throughout last week pushing 2-4ft walls through Granite and Ti-Tree Bay. National smaller at around 2ft and First Point a low tide only option. The sand bank at First Point feels like it’s been out of action since August last year. It is working its way down the point a bit more to go to fill the hole in front of the Surf Club. Sunshine has had a couple mornings Monday and Tuesday with 2-3ft peaks cleaner with the early offshore wind on it. Plenty of gutters forming through the mid to high tide.

The back end of this week looks like a small East swell will filter through, light winds ENE then NE wind real light and a high tide around 6am morning session looks the go. Saturday is shaping up with a west wind predicted before winds swing back to the SE. Alex Bay has a bank in the Southern Corner short rolling left and a bit of a right, wind affected but might be Ok for a slightly bigger schralp. UTB has an interesting bank forming keep your eye on this It won’t need to be big to be good.

The World Surf League longboard event finished last week in conditions that really needed some surf savvy. A highlight was Noosa Mal Clubs Emily Lethbridge’s semi-final finish. Her Hang Tens in super difficult waves were up there with the best. She really is world class! Joel Tudor at 43 took out the men’s pro event he read the conditions perfectly making it look much better than it was. It comes back to style, from his stance to the way he weights and unweights his turns. Surfing style seems to be more homogenized these days, it was easy to pick him out of the pack.

This applies to short-boarding develop your own style it will make a difference in the judging tent. Makes you feel good as well! Check out Mark Richards style they call him the “wounded seagull”. www.markrichardssurfboards.com

Junior round 2 was run and won last Sunday a classic day at the shine. It is warming to see so many helpers making the day and building the NBC family, it’s a broad tent we live in. It was a day for birthdays but also a standout day for some of our up and coming surfers new to podium. A huge congratulations to Darcy Dwyer 1st U12 Boys, Lucy Bowen 1st U12-14 girls and Pipi Taylor U10 boys winner.

If you have any photos and are cool with us using them in NBC social media and web site shoot them through to mickcourt14@icloud.com.

Watch out for the new NBC raffle coming soon, a members draw with limited tickets to win a new board!

The Noosa World Surfing Reserve was officially dedicated last Friday as the 10th world surfing reserve. The Queensland Government will hold a round table meeting 4th March 2020 on proposed protective legislation for World Surfing Reserves. Phil Jarratt and Noosa Council CEO Brett de Chastel are invitees. NWSR met briefly with him late yesterday to discuss a shared position on the legislation, about which Brett is quite excited, and he will present on behalf of Council and NWSR as Phil cannot attend.

The long and the short of it is, we don’t know what the State Govt has in mind and neither Gold Coast nor Noosa really wants to push the boundaries too far in seeking exclusion zones or the like. However, clearly they are taking this seriously, with many top public servants in attendance to discuss the actual logistics, so an outcome now seems more likely than it did. And any official Government enshrinement/recognition of our WSR status can only be helpful for the future.

This a great thing for surfing in Noosa and now to have Noosa Council actively involved in surfing can only auger well for the future of our club. The work is ongoing if you are interested in a Noosa surf management plan from parking to beach parks to the beach to the wave zone or would like to get involved head on over to the NWSR web site www.noosaworldsurfingreserve.com.au and flick an email to the committee.

SHARE. RESPECT. PRESERVE. There’s plenty of waves share them around and look after your mates in the water, play it safe.

Good surfing
