Life Members Celebrate

A lot of froth in and out of the water this week with Noosa Boardriders Club life members celebrating birthdays last week. “MF” Mark Fielding  and David “Chucky” Cervi club stalwarts raised their glasses to another year. Here’s a few photos of the guys doing what they love best. Surfing, hanging out and representing the club at 2019 Australian Surfing Awards Simon Anderson Club Award. Check out MF classic shots!

Noosa Boardriders Club “Life Membership” is an important recognition of service to our club.  It is these members who through outstanding commitment and tireless work ethic have truly laid the foundations of our club. They are responsible for the cultural ethos as a guiding light for generations of members to come. It is their creed that our heritage is brought forward to sit and mix with the fresh new ideas of our contemporary club. They set the standard on good sportsmanship, building our teamwork, character, and teaching respect, honour, discipline, inclusion and more. When our kids hit the water they enjoy active play, they look forward to our sport and exercise as a chance to make new friends and develop new skills. This is the regeneration of Noosa Boardriders Club that our “Life Members” can be duly proud of.

What a great week in the surf from offshore beach breaks to small perfect peelers. Sunshine to Castaways offered some size and quality-3-4ft peaks  with the right tides. Ti Tree and Granite fired through some crystal 2ft-3ft walls under the radar  Tuesday with a very deceptive swell direction. The East swell direction will continue into the weekend not a large or powerful swell but just enough to produce a trickle of waves along the points on low tide with a few small beach breaks at Noosa West. With around 10-15knots of ESE wind on the opens it might be plan B with Alex bay in mind. It’s a run of east swell that is expected to yo-yo all through the week at around 2ft. The prevailing winds are from ENE dropping to around 6 knots later in the week, this should open up a few sessions on the open beaches. The sand banks are scattered inshore and offshore along the open breach stretch with various tide during the day levels revealing the better banks. Its spreading surf time all day long and separating the crowd. Keep an eye on wind direction as we could have a couple cleaner mornings as the wind swings to direct NE late next week.

All surf comps are cancelled for now including the WSL world tour which is on hold till at least June. However, late last month, prior to shutdown the first ever wave pool competition was held at “Urbn Surf” Tullarmarine, Melbourne. The Pool Party without crowds and fanfare, with sunny skies and clean 2-3ft smashable waves it was a bit hit. Crazy, whats next a wave pool in Noosa? Who knows, could be a part solution to parking and overcrowded breaks. If you’re stuck inside a favourite series is Dylan Graves “Weird Waves” from newly completed wave pool testing to Glacia Surfing in Alaska. Don’t miss the “Great Lakes” episode, epic froth!

In these uncertain times while we still can sneak one in, play it safe, give yourself some space out there and stay safe members!

Good surfing
